Deadly Beauty

An anime character breaks out of a dark banner, aiming a handgun at the viewer, above a flowing script title.

A dark green-black banner with "Deadly Beauty" in white script and faint Japanese characters, with an anime girl with grey twin tails aiming a handgun breaking out of the top of the frame.

About this piece

The trick here is breaking the frame. The banner is a dark rectangle, but the character steps out above it, so the gun points straight at you. Faint Japanese characters add texture behind the script title.

Out-of-frame effects felt like magic the first time you figured them out.

The character artwork is third-party anime-style illustration, not mine. My part was the cropping, layering, textures, lighting and type around it.
