Old Man — Blender Character (Work in Progress)

My first character render from learning Blender: a blocky, stylised old man, modelled and lit in Eevee before any materials go on.

Untextured grey Blender render of a blocky stylised old man with big square shoulders, a surprised open mouth and a ring on one hand, lit with hard shadows on a dark background.

What it is

My first character render, made while teaching myself Blender. He’s a deliberately blocky, stylised old man: a broad, top-heavy body, stubby legs with oversized boots, small inset eyes and a round “O” of a mouth, plus a ring on one hand as a small character detail.

Where it’s at

This is a pre-materials render. The model is shown in plain clay grey and rendered in Blender’s Eevee engine, so the focus is entirely on form, proportion and lighting before any colour or texture is added. A single hard key light picks out the chunky geometry and throws strong shadows across the body to show off the silhouette.

Next steps

He’s a work in progress. Next comes materials and texturing, then more of the Blender pipeline as I learn it. This page will be updated as he develops.
